Wednesday 30 January 2019

A letter written by Glady Staines to his son on his 20th death anniversary:

Dear Philip                                                                           23rd January 2019

It is strange to think that 20 years has passed since that January night. Strange as well to think, that had it never happened, you would now be thirty and Timothy twenty-six years old.

We woke up the day after your death to another day at Kovalam Beach where we were on holiday. And there it was on the front page of The Hindu newspaper, a grainy photo of a burnt out vehicle and words that blurred on the page, disconnected and nonsensical.

You never saw 9/11. If you had, I guess, you would have been about twelve years old. Airplanes crashing into towers, dust, rubble, destruction and burning; the air heavy with ash and death.

Everyone who remembers the events of 9/11 can also remember what they were doing the moment they heard.

The morning after your death was like that; separate to normal reality, brazen, burnt into the memory and never forgotten. And unspoken on many lips was not the fact of your demise, but the manner of it.

And that morning, at Kovalam Beach; the waves still crashed on the beach, the Sunglass Man was still out, a lassi was still sweet, lime sodas were still for sale, the fishermen still dragged their boats up the beach, like any other day.

Back at school, a few weeks later, your memorial service was held outside on the basketball court. The sky was incongruously blue and the sun bright. The silvered eucalyptus leaves glittered overhead dancing in the breeze. In February (at the time your memorial took place), a few months before the monsoon’s arrival, the sun shone unrelentingly with no let up for a mourner who longed for a sullen sky and a cold wind.

We sang “It is well with my soul”, rather badly I thought, voices thin and insubstantial with no roof overhead to catch any sound. We remembered you writing with too much premonition for a 10 year old that you “wanted to live to give God glory” in your school handbook. We remembered your Dad standing at the back of the Assembly Hall bellowing out hymns so half the school turned around to see who was singing.

Two other Standard 13 students and I read an account of the life of Horatio Spafford, the writer of the hymn “It is well with my soul”. We had no microphones and so our voices it seemed, hung in the air around us as if we were only talking to ourselves. Horatio’s family was almost entirely swept away with only the exception of a baby daughter. My preoccupied mind did not really join the dots in what I was reading and how it related to recent events. Horatio’s overwhelming loss was (and is) the loss experienced by your Mum and your sister Esther. Your family’s loss was (and is) our loss to share. Horatio’s reaction was (and is) your Mum and Esther’s reaction and could be ours. But I confess, at the time, this significance was lost on me. All I felt was empty shock. But this sense of shock was shared, it seemed to me, as so few shed tears at that service. You had been taken with such force and violence; we were dry eyed and silent. Seated on the back row with the other girls in Standard 13, I listened to Mark Ronalds, your Standard 6 teacher deliver a moving tribute. His honest reflection and the holding back of his tears brought tears to my eyes.

And then I had an A level physics class and school ground back into motion like an old machine stiff with a nine week holiday behind it.

We had a Sports Day that year (not a swimming gala) and your sister Esther won javelin (I think) for her age division. At the point that her name was called to come and collect her tiny trophy cup and certificate, the cheers were deafening. She had won the Olympic Gold for us, an Olympic Gold in bearing up under suffering.

And so much has happened in 20 years. We are all grown up now. And you would be too, if none of it had happened. Esther and your Mum are back in Australia. Esther is married with four children, with a son – your nephew – who looks exactly as you did.

I visited Hebron in 2009, and found that the newly renovated Assembly Hall was named the “Staines Memorial Hall”. On the plaque outside reads this verse from John’s gospel. ”Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” (John 12:24, NIV)

Orissa is a place of a rapidly growing church. Those many seeds are green shoots. And Orissa is still a place of the intensely persecuted. The air still hangs heavy with suffering for Christians; where you lived and eventually died. Thousands are displaced, Christians killed, church buildings destroyed. The world is not worthy of them.

The world was not worthy of you or Timothy or your Dad either. And although the adult Philip and Timothy or the seventy-eight year missionary statesman Graham are not a real presence for us earth side; it is gloriously real heaven side.

It is well with our souls.

And it will be well with our souls.

God will answer your prayer- Touching story

Dr. Abraham, a well known cancer specialist, was once on his way to an important conference in another city where he was going to receive an award in the field of medical research.

He was excited about the award and so boarded a plane to the venue. However, two hours after the plane took off, it made an emergency landing at the nearest airport due to a technical problem.

Afraid that he would not make it in time to the conference, he immediately went to the reception to make enquiries. He found out that he would have to wait ten hours for the next flight to his destination! He rented a car and drove himself to the conference city which was four hours away.

Soon after he left, the weather changed and a heavy storm began.
The downpour made it difficult for him to see so he missed a turn he was supposed to take.

Driving in the heavy rain on a deserted road, feeling hungry and tired, he frantically began to look for any sign of civilization. He came across a small tattered house and knocked on the door. A beautiful lady opened the door. He explained his situation and wanted to use the lady's telephone but she had no telephone. She however asked him to come inside and wait till the weather improved. The doctor who was hungry and exhausted accepted the offer. The lady offered him something to eat and drink.

She asked him to join her in prayers but he declined. According to him, he believed in hard work, not in prayers! Sitting at the table and sipping his tea, the doctor watched the woman pray many times beside a baby's crib. Feeling that the woman might be in need of help, the doctor asked her what exactly she needed from God and asked if God ever listened to her prayers.

When he inquired of the child in the crib, the woman explained that her son was down with cancer. And they had been advised to see a doctor named Abraham who could cure him but she did not have enough money to afford his fees.
She said that God had not yet answered her prayers but said that God would create some way out one day.  She added that she would not allow her fears to overcome her faith!

Stunned and speechless, Dr. Abraham began to weep! He was forced to say out loud, "GOD IS GREAT" and recollected to the woman, all the sequence of bad events: malfunction on the plane, a thunderstorm and how he lost his way.  All of which had happened because God answers prayers,  wanted to give him a chance to come out of his bondage of materialistic career pursuit and give some time to a poor, helpless woman who had nothing but rich prayers!

Oh! What a God!

*God may not answer your prayers YOUR WAY but he will always answer HIS way.*

_*Behind the scenes, he will move men, the weather, events, circumstances, etc. in order to work out the best for you!_*

Do not stop trusting!
Do not stop hoping!

God is busy planning your dancing this year!

Hold on!
Hold out!

Look up daily!

This touched and still touches me. I hope it touches you too, and if it does, please share.

WHAT IS CHURCH?

Church is hard.

Church is hard for the person walking through the doors, afraid of judgment.

Church is hard for the pastor’s family, under the microscope of an entire body.

Church is hard for the prodigal soul returning home, broken and battered by the world.

Church is hard for the girl who looks like she has it all together, but doesn’t.

Church is hard for the couple who fought the entire ride to service.

Church is hard for the single mom, surrounded by couples holding hands, and seemingly perfect families.

Church is hard for the widow and widower with no invitation to lunch after service.

Church is hard for the deacon with an estranged child.

Church is hard for the person singing worship songs, overwhelmed by the weight of the lyrics.

Church is hard for the man insecure in his role as a leader.

Church is hard for the wife who longs to be led by a righteous man.

Church is hard for the nursery volunteer who desperately longs for a baby to love.

Church is hard for the single woman and single man, praying God brings them a mate.

Church is hard for the teenage girl, wearing a scarlet letter, ashamed of her mistakes.

Church is hard for the sinners.

Church is hard for me.

It’s hard because on the outside it all looks shiny and perfect. Sunday best in behavior and dress.

However, underneath those layers, you find a body of imperfect people, carnal souls, selfish motives.

But, here is the beauty of church—

Church isn’t a building, mentality, or expectation.

Church is a body.

Church is a group of sinners, saved by grace, living in fellowship as saints.

Church is a body of believers bound as brothers and sisters by an eternal love.

Church is a holy ground where sinners stand as equals before the Throne of Grace.

Church is a refuge for broken hearts and a training ground for mighty warriors.

Church is a converging of confrontation and invitation. Where sin is confronted and hearts are invited to seek restoration.

Church is a lesson in faith and trust.

Church is a bearer of burdens and a giver of hope.

Church is a family. A family coming together, setting aside differences, forgetting past mistakes, rejoicing in the smallest of victories.

Church, the body, and the circle of sinners-turned-saints, is where He resides, and if we ask, He is faithful to come.

So even on the hard days at church—

The days when I am at odds with a friend, When I’ve fought with my husband because we’re late once again. When I’ve walked in bearing burdens heavier than my heart can handle, yet masking the pain with a smile on my face. When I’ve worn a scarlet letter, under the microscope. When I’ve longed for a baby to hold, or fought tears as the lyrics were sung. When I’ve walked back in, afraid and broken, after walking away.

I’ll remember, He has never failed to meet me there.

Church is a body, a family, a place to love God and love others through our struggles!

*19.* The "Empire of Man" described in Revelation is called Babylon which was a city in Iraq!

*AND, DID YOU ALSO KNOW THAT?*
Israel is the nation most often mentioned in the Bible. But do you know which nation is second? It is Iraq!
However, that is not the name that is used in the Bible. The names used in the Bible are Babylon, Chaldean, Land of Shinar, and Mesopotamia. The word Mesopotamia means between the two rivers, more exactly between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. The name Iraq, means country with deep roots. Indeed Iraq is a country with deep roots and is a very significant country in the Bible. Here's why:
👉Eden was in Iraq-Genesis 2:10-14
👉Adam & Eve were created in Iraq-Genesis 2:7-8
👉Satan made his first recorded appearance in Iraq-Genesis 3:1-6
👉Nimrod established Babylon & Tower of Babel was built in Iraq-Genesis 10:8-97; 11:1-4
👉The confusion of the languages took place in Iraq-Genesis 11:5-11
👉Abraham came from a city in Iraq-Genesis 11:31; Acts 7:2-4
👉Isaac's bride came from Iraq-Genesis 24:3-4; 10
👉Jacob spent 20 years in Iraq-Genesis 27:42-45; 31:38
👉The first world Empire was in Iraq-Daniel 1:1-2;2:36-38
👉The greatest revival in history was in a city in Iraq-Jonah 3
👉The events of the book of Esther took place in Iraq-Esther
👉The book of Nahum was a prophecy against a city in Iraq-Nahum
👉The book or Revelation has prophecies against Babylon, which was the old name for the nation of Iraq-Revelation 17 &18
No other nation, except Israel, that has more history and prophecy associated to it than Iraq.
Surprised???

The story about Old age Home

There was an old man. He was wealthy and living with son and daughter-in-law.

One day he became sick. He was hospialised. After few days he was taken home. His son engaged a nurse and a servant to look after him.

Initially his son and daughter-in-law used to to come to his room. Slowly, slowly they stopped coming to him. Old man was feelin very sad but he didn't say anything to anyone.

One day he just came out of his room and saw his son and daughter-in-law talking to each other.

Daughter-in-law said, "I think we should keep father in an old age home. There people will look after him. Here our son might be affected." The son nodded.

Old man after hearing the conversation felt very bad. He went back to his room.

In the evening the son came to his room and said, "I want to say something to you." Father said., "I too want to say something to you."

Son: OK. Go ahead.

Father: You know I am not keeping good health. I want to live rest of my life with people like me who are sick and none is there to look after them."

The son was very happy to hear this. But concealing his happiness he said, "What are you saying dad? What difficulties do you have living here?"

Father: No my son. I don't have any difficulty living here. But I am at pain to tell you that you please make your arrangement to live somewhere else. I have decided to convert my  bunglow into an Old Age Home where people like me can live with me."

Father: Oh. You also wanted to tell me something. What's that?"

There was a silence in the room.

Encouraging and promise message for 2019

🏵☘🏵☘🏵☘🏵☘

A beautiful, heartwarming anecdote.....just right to usher in the new year. ❤

" Today I was walking in the supermarket and suddenly I heard a noise of things breaking. I walked down the aisles and saw that some people were murmuring . When I walked down their aisle, I saw a group of people staring at them.
An older lady had hit the shelf containing plates and glasses with her cart and many had fallen to the ground and broken.
Kneeling on the floor embarrassed, the old lady was frantically picking up the shattered pieces, while her husband peeled off the bar code from each broken dish saying:
"See!!! Now we will have to pay for all this."
What a sad scene. Someone has a mishap, and all eyes were on her. When I knelt beside her to explain to her not to worry, a young man came and knelt beside us and said:
- Leave it, we will pick this up. Let’s get your information, so you can go to the hospital and have that wound in your hand looked at.
The lady looked at him, embarrassed and said:
- No. But I have to pay for all this.
The young man said:
- No ma'am, We have insurance for that kind of loss, and you do not have to pay anything.
When the young man got up, I could see that he had the information for the supermarket manager and sent the customer to get checked out.

🏵☘🏵☘🏵☘🏵☘

For you who have read this so far, I would like you to give me a minute. Wherever you are, close your eyes, and imagine God doing the same for you!
Collect the pieces of your broken heart for all the blows that life has thrown at you. , God will heal all your wounds and I assure you that your sins and mistakes will be forgiven.
There is a warranty called grace, that when you recognize that you were wrong and you accept God as your only savior, the manager of the existence of the universe (GOD) will tell you: "Everything is already paid for ... go on your way, go!"

Promise words for 2019

A little boy and his father visited the country store, and upon leaving the store, the owner of the store offered the little boy some free Sewers... “Get a hand full of Sweets", the merchant said to the boy.
The boy just stood there looking up at his father. The owner repeated himself:- “Son get a hand full of Sweets... it’s free.” Again the boy did not move, continuing to look up in the face of his father.
Finally the father reached into the candy jar and got a hand full of Sweets and gave it to his son.
As they walked back home, the father stopped and asked his son why he did not grab a hand full of the free candy. The boy with a big smile on his face looked into the face of his father and said:- *“Because I know that your HAND is BIGGER than mine.”*

So, whatever our needs are  as we journey into the new  year 2019, please place them in the *FATHER'S HAND IN HEAVEN,* because HIS HAND is BIGGER THAN OURS.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2019

Remember not the storms of this past year, and do not regret the hills and the valleys. Remember how GOD never failed you. He was in it, holding your hands tightly, never letting go when you were upset or hurt.

The LORD your GOD has promised in this New Year that If you remain in Him and His Words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you (John 15:7). The best is yet to come. Therefore, expect this jubilant new year to be one of elevation and good news of prophetic manifestations and miracles.

May God be glorified in 2019, as you experience the surpassing greatness of God's favor and a supernatural increase in every area of your life.

*"'You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.'" (Luke 1:45, NLT).*
